Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
