The network's Leading New Show of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
