Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic £11m in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
