'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Unaccounted For Teenagers Desperately Seek News After Alpine Fire
The loved ones of young people unaccounted for after a deadly fire at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are confronting an painful wait for official news and appealing for information about their family members online.
The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Confirmed footage show the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the victims of the disaster, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Authorities stated on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with efforts continuing to name the final individuals.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on the internet to appeal for any news about their friends who were at the bar that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of a town near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she told the paper.
She added that some of his peers had been found with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's government has indicated that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "talented young man who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him said they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, alongside great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
